Committees & Teams

There are several committees and teams you can join to assist the school. This section briefly outlines the purpose and who to contact if you interested in participating on a committee or team. We always need help so don’t be shy!

Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)

The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) exemplifies the strength of MWS parent involvement in enhancing the learning environment at our school. Through a variety of annual fundraisers, the PTO raises funds to supplement the school’s resources in order to offer our children a well-rounded learning experience. The PTO also sponsors social events to bring our families together in a relaxed setting. Moreover, community members embrace our school; their support is demonstrated in numerous ways including providing volunteers and financial support for special activities, and vocally advocating for the important role that our school plays in the vitality of the community.

The purpose of the PTO is to support the educational program of the school. This purpose consists of activities which:

  • Promote the growth, development, and welfare of the students;
  • Supplement educational, cultural, and social programs offered by the school system;
  • Encourage a sense of community among its members;
  • Augment the educational resources and supplies provided by the school system;
  • Address district, city and state educational issues;
  • Engage in all other appropriate activities consistent with these goals.

PTO Contact Information

The PTO consists of 10 parent members, 4 teacher members, the principal and the assistant principal. Below please find a list of officers for this year’s PTO. Please feel free to contact any of us for participation or information about activities listed above.

School Family Council (SFC)

The School Family Council meets each month during the school year to discuss and develop plans to improve student achievement, ensure quality programs, enrich family and community engagement, and help our school achieve its greatest potential.

Baltimore City Public Schools requires that each school maintain a School Family Council (SFC). The SFC is charged with improving family and community engagement; advising the principal on issues such as the budget; and developing, implementing, and assessing the School Improvement Plan. The SFC reviews the results of the annual school Climate Survey, student achievement data, and demographic information to contribute to the development of goals related to the instructional programs, family and community engagement, and other issues identified as priorities for the school community.

The School Family Council consists of the MWS principal, assistant principal, teachers, parents, and community members. MWS parents elect new SFC members each year with a chair and vice-chair elected from the membership.
